$50 Million Flood Control Project to Mitigate Storm Risks
Construction on three detention basins along Cypress Creek is set to begin in a few months after state and federal lawmakers secured $22 million, allowing the $50 million flood control project to move forward. The project, managed by the Harris County Flood Control District, aims to create stormwater detention basins east and west of T.C. Jester Boulevard, south of Cypresswood Drive, in Spring to reduce flooding risks for properties in the area. A $2.5 billion bond approved by county voters in 2018 helped fund preliminary engineering and design work for the basins while the district sought more funding sources. State Rep. Sam Harless announced $12 million in state funding, adding to $10 million in federal funds obtained by U.S. Rep. Dan Crenshaw.
